Four university hospitals from Aachen, Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf merged into the CIO – Center for Integrated Oncology. The new building on the campus of the University Hospital in Cologne was opened in 2019. With its original facade by kadawittfeldarchitektur, the CIO is a confident symbol of a future-oriented healthcare system and visibly attracts attention.
The complex reinforced concrete building is rectangular in shape and has seven floors with approx. 13,700 m² of usable space built around two atriums, which are used to light and ventilate the surrounding rooms. The two underground floors contain an underground garage, engine room, warehouses, and utility rooms.
