ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Name:
NEW NAGA HAMMADI BARRAGE AND HYDROPOWER PLANT – EGYPT; Naga Hammadi Barrage Development Consultants (2005)

Location:
Naga Hammadi, Egypt

The construction of the new Naga Hammadi barrage was completed in the spring of 2008.

A 330-meter-long, 20-meter-high concrete structure erected in a construction pit in Naga Hammadi, Upper Egypt, replaces a structure built in the early 1900s.

Acting as an embankment, the seven-gate dam raises water levels up to 8 m for irrigation and powers a 64 MW hydroelectric power plant, consisting of a power plant, an embankment plant, and two navigation locks.

The dam is of crucial importance for the development of water supply infrastructure in the Nile Valley.
